ABSTRACT

The work is on the design and construction of a 1000w inverter which works in principle of pulse width modulation. The design and implementation started with the power supply. Component selection was made with the aid of electronic data book which also made the design and calculation easier. The inverter converts dc supply to a battery into ac power supply required by most of our electrical equipments when the ac mains is not available , the ac main supply goes through the relays and battery charging section of the inverter . This inverter can be used for domestic purpose and is not recommended for industrial purpose where high current is required for application such as starting a heavy duty motor. This project reports discusses in detail the components used, the principle of operation of the 1000w inverter, calculation of the exact units, tests and results carried out on each unit, packaging , problems encountered, cost evaluation of components used in construction and application

1.2AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

  • To show how well a DC converted power can sustain power as an energy alternative
  • To establish where possible the unit of a system performance in providing continuous power availability

1.3    SCOPE AND LIMITATION

The project entails the processes of achieving a detailed explanation of the circuit diagram of the method used to realize this inverter ,testing the inverter ,construction of every part of  the circuit , how to charge the DC battery and a brief explanation and description of the components used. The inverter system has a rating of 1000w andit can only be used for load rating below the rating of the inverter in other words; the inverter cannot be used to feed a load of higher rating. It can be used for electronic appliances and some domestic appliances but it cannot be used for higher rating appliances such as the electric heater, washing machine etc.

1.4   SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJECT

The design will be of great importance to the general public, academics and the business world. To the academics, indebt study of the electric components used in the design will go a long way in providing the ever needed practical experience to electronic designs. It will cut across to so many components properties and implementation.
